GRADING
Language Arts classes will be graded using a category weighted system. The categories are as follows:
TESTS/PROJECTS/QUZZES (50%)
Tests and quizzes will be given on a regular basis following units and short stories. Projects will be assigned on a quarterly basis.
DAILY WORK (40%)
Daily Work may be completed during class and/or assigned on a daily basis and will be due at the start of the following class period unless otherwise stated. At the beginning of each class period, students will be expected to complete Bell Work. This is a brief activity that will consist of Roots Vocabulary, journal writing, and language arts concepts.
AR / INDEPENDENT READING (10%)
As per district guidelines, Accelerated Reader will be a part of the language arts curriculum and account for 10% of each student's language arts grade each quarter. Students will be taken to the library on a weekly basis to insure they have appropriate and adequate reading material. Each student will be given an individual goal that will be monitored and evaluated regularly. Parents and students can sign up for Accelerated Reader Home Connect (see attached instructions) to monitor goals and achievements.
LATE WORK
Because homework provides the teacher and students with valuable feedback, it is important for all homework assignments to be turned in on time. Assignments turned in one day late will receive half credit. No credit will be given for assignments turned in two or more days late.
